Seven Days to Beautiful Living: Discovering Your Purpose

Welcome to Day 2 of Beautiful Living.

Sometimes we can be so busy that we forget the purpose of being alive. We allow life’s demands to keep us distracted and not realizing that God always has a greater purpose for each of us. His purpose not only encompass our lives, but the lives of those around us – at home, school, work, and community. It’s important that we live out our purpose.

Each of us, are born with a purpose and calling that we can discover or completely miss. In order to live a fulfilled life, it is important to discover your purpose or calling on your life. There are so many unhappy people in the world because they are not operating in their purpose. How many people do you know that are truly happy with what they are doing in life?

When you are not operating in God's purpose for your life then you tend to feel unhappy, unfulfilled like you have been left behind, or simply going through the motions of life. Since everyone was created for a purpose, you become dissatisfied with life when you are not operating in what you have been called to do.

When talking about purpose, I like to use the example of the fish. If you took a fish out of the water and laid it on the grass, how long do you think it will be before the fish becomes unhappy and start gasping for air? The fish will never adjust to the grass and will never be satisfied or prosper. The fish will eventually die. The fish can't be all it was created to be when it is out of the water (operating out of its purpose).

This is no different for you. You cannot be all that you were created to be when you are not operating in your purpose.

If this is you, pray and ask God to reveal your purpose to you. It is important to God that you know what your purpose is. God created you for greatness and have awesome and amazing plans for your life. Jeremiah 29:11 says, For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Here are some ways to discover your purpose.

1. Create a vision board.

A vision board is a powerful visualization tool that you can use as inspiration on your journey to discovering your purpose. It is a collage of words and pictures that represent your goals and dreams. A vision board helps you to clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a specific life goal. The best way to achieve your goals is to keep them on the top of your mind, so you should always be looking for ways to move closer to them – and a vision board is a perfect tool to help you do that.

2. What are others telling you that you are good at?

You may be able to discover your purpose by just listening to what others are telling you that you are good at. Listen up because you probably have been told this one particular thing over and over again by different people. This is the time to take in what has been repeatedly told to you. It's not uncommon for God to use other people to help you discover what your purpose is.

3. What are your gifts and talents?

Take some time to write down everything that you are good at. God has given us all gifts and talents for us to grow and of course, if you don't use these gifts and talents then you are not able to develop them and therefore you lose them. If you are not able to identify your gifts and talents then try doing new things that inspire you. If you are led by the things that inspire you then God can use these new experiences to reveal more to you about who you are and what you are called to do.

4. What are you passionate about?

What are some things that you do that makes you happy and you get really excited when you have an opportunity to do it? Write down the things that you are passionate about and also write down the things that you enjoy doing...your hobbies.

I've given you four things that you can do today to start your journey in discovering your purpose. Pray and remember that your purpose, the calling on your life, isn't just about you, but it's about what God wants to do through you. So it is very important that you seek diligently to find your purpose not only for you but for the people who lives you will impact by just walking into your purpose.

Until Next Time!
